Stretching to warm-up before a workout is always necessary but be sure to understand healthy stretching habits. Knowing the difference in passive and active stretching can save you from injury. Passive stretching is when an outside force is used to stretch the target muscle beyond the range of motion. This form tears down muscles and leaves them weakened for a short time after. Active stretching uses your own muscles to stretch through range of motion and helps keep a healthy joint stability.
